Everton want to sign Maxwel Cornet in last-gasp transfer news at Goodison Park
Everton have added West Ham United attacker Maxwel Cornet to their list of late transfer targets, according to the Daily Mail.
The newspaper shared via their print edition [30 August, pg 64] that the Merseyside club are keen on signing the Ivorian winger, who is capable of playing both up front and out wide.
Cornet signed for West Ham last summer in a £17.8million move from Burnley but has been unable to make the impact he would have wanted, providing no goals or assists in just 14 Premier League appearances.
A reunion with his former boss
A move to Goodison Park would see Cornet link up once again with his former boss Sean Dyche, whom he thrived under at Turf Moor, earning himself that big-money move to the East London side despite Burnley’s ultimate relegation and Dyche’s dismissal.
In 26 Premier League appearances under the Everton boss, Cornet scored nine goals and provided one assist, displaying his brilliant left foot, as he was converted to a striker despite spending most of his time at Lyon playing as a left-back.
A reunion with Dyche makes sense for both parties. The attacker will be hoping to rediscover his best form and show everybody what he can do after a poor season, while Dyche is desperate to add reinforcements to his weakened squad.
Everton need new wingers and strikers, which is exactly what Cornet can provide. His strong left foot means he can play on the left wing and deliver vicious crosses, just what the boss will want, but can also provide cover for the strikers when needed.
