Everton on verge of multi-million agreement to sell Alex Iwobi to Fulham after talks on Wednesday night

Everton are on the verge of reaching an agreement with Fulham over the sale of midfielder Alex Iwobi after talks between the two clubs on Wednesday, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper shared via its online edition on 30 August that discussions are ongoing between the two Premier League clubs.

It is claimed that the fee will also involve further add-ons for Iwobi, who is due to be out of contract at Goodison Park at the end of the season.

Fulham manager Marco Silva was in charge of Everton when the Toffees splashed out a reported £35m to sign Iwobi in August 2019.

Reinvest the money

Iwobi’s game has developed a lot in the four years since arriving on Merseyside.

Having been signed as an option out wide, the Nigeria international has since been moulded into more of an all-round midfielder.

Sean Dyche will be reluctant to lose Iwobi, but he has not been used in the Toffees’ past two games in all competitions and a move away was always a possibility.

The 27-year-old’s contract situation has somewhat forced Everton’s hand, with the club reluctant to see a big-money signing depart for nothing.

It could mean Dyche has a further £20m to invest back into the squad, which would be used on a defender and/or another attacker.

That would make this a good deal, but if there is no further incoming activity before the transfer window closes, Everton are weakened in a key area.

In an ideal world, Everton will already have a target lined up to come in once Iwobi’s exit is given the green light.

After four years of service, it is time for the Arsenal academy product to move on.

In other Everton news, another Toffees player is reportedly the subject of multiple bids late on in the window.
