Steven Alzate exit now imminent as Everton want brand new transfer
Steven Alzate is set to leave Brighton imminently with Everton interested in signing the midfielder, according to Pipe Sierra.
The Colombian journalist reported via his Twitter account on Thursday (31 August) that Everton and Wolves are two Premier League sides interested in signing him.
There has also been interest from abroad with both Sevilla and Fiorentina interested in securing the Colombian midfielder who has fallen down the pecking order on the South Coast after the arrival of Robert De Zerbi, failing to appear once under the Brighton manager.
Everton have held an interest in Alzate during this transfer window as they look to strengthen their midfield after a difficult start to the season, with contact already being made between the Toffees and Brighton in the hope of securing the 24-year-old [Simon Stone, 30 August, 7:43].
Surprise
Most Everton fans won’t likely view central midfield as a key position to strengthen between now and the end of the transfer window, with the seemingly more pressing issues at Goodison Park being the lack of goals and the fragility of the defence.
Beto’s arrival seems to be in the hope of ending the Toffees’ struggles in front of goal and he impressed in the Carabao Cup, but the defence still seems rather light and there is a lack of threat from the wing in Sean Dyche’s side.

Although Alzate is a talented player and did manage eight goal contributions while on loan with Standard Liege in the Belgian Pro League last season, he has struggled to make an impact with Brighton in recent times, despite the Seagulls losing the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo.
You would have thought those two departures would have opened the door for the Colombian to shine on the south coast, but he still hasn’t forced his way into De Zerbi’s plans. Furthermore, with both Everton and Wolves struggling financially this summer, you wouldn’t be surprised to see one Sevilla or Fiorentina beating them to Alzate’s signature, especially if he wants to avoid a relegation battle.
