Everton transfer news as Alex Iwobi exit hits ‘stumbling block’ – BBC Sport journalist

Alex Iwobi’s potential move from Everton to Fulham has hit a “stumbling block,” according to BBC Sport journalist Phil McNulty.

The journalist reported for BBC Sport on Friday (1 September) that the Cottagers continue to hold talks with the Toffees over a deal for the player.

The Nigeria international played twice for Everton this season before suffering a hamstring injury in the loss against Aston Villa.

“Fulham are continuing to hold talks with Everton in an attempt to secure a deadline day deal for midfield man Alex Iwobi,” McNulty wrote for BBC Sport.

“One stumbling block may be the fee, with Everton understood to want between £15m and £20m for Iwobi, who currently faces a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury sustained in the 4-0 defeat at Aston Villa but discussions are ongoing.”

Big loss

Everton should definitely be trying to get as big a fee as possible for the talented midfielder given how much of a loss he will be on the pitch.

The Toffees need creative players if they are to have any hope of staying in the Premier League this season, having come so close to dropping down into the Championship in the past two campaigns.

Iwobi may be a touch disappointed with his goals and assists figures for the Merseyside club, but he offers a real threat, and that will definitely be demonstrated at Craven Cottage should his proposed move to Fulham go through.

Everton also need experience, and Iwobi has that in abundance, with the midfielder boasting over 200 Premier League appearances during his time with the Toffees and in North London with Arsenal.

The only silver lining in his impending exit will be the fee that Everton can gain from his sale, which should help them in the long run, but also in the short run as it can be put towards another new signing.

In other Everton news, early team news for the clash with Sheffield United has emerged, with an update on Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
