Everton transfer news as BBC journalist shares update on pursuit of West Ham ace Maxwel Cornet
Everton will not be signing West Ham attacker Maxwel Cornet this summer despite reports to the contrary, according to Shamoon Hafez.
The BBC journalist reported with less than an hour left before the window closed that a move to sign the 26-year-old was not happening.
Cornet, an Ivory Coast international, was on the bench as the Hammers beat Luton Town on 1 September so a deadline day move always seemed unlikely.
Via Twitter, Hafez wrote, “I’m told Maxwel Cornet to Everton is not one that is happening with less than an hour remaining in the transfer window. Get to bed lads, trip to Sheffield in the morning.”
Always unlikely
Cornet’s name emerged in the final days of the window and there were always doubts about how legitimate the Toffees’ interest was.
If they were keen and could offer him regular game time, they perhaps would’ve tried to convince him to miss this game.
Cornet, at his age, is likely to move to another Premier League club, if he’s a first-team regular.

He’s proven at Burnley that he can deliver in the English top flight so this was as signing that could’ve been made.
It remains to be seen if there are deal sheets in for any new player but it seems very unlikely, as things stand.
A rather uneventful and disappointing transfer deadline day for the Toffees.
