Sky Sports presenter hails ‘unbelievable’ Jordan Pickford after late save v Sheffield United
The Sky Sports Soccer Saturday studio was left in awe at Jordan Pickford’s “unbelievable” late save to rescue Everton a point against Sheffield United in their 2-2 draw on 2 September.
Sue Smith, who was covering the game, detailed Pickford’s impact on the last chance of the game, with a save from an Ollie McBurnie header followed up by another “brilliant” save to win his team a point.
Around the rest of the studio, gasps of amazement could be heard as the pundits could not believe what they were seeing from the England international goalkeeper.
Smith detailed the save for watching viewers, stating: “It must be the last chance of the game. Jordan Pickford, it’s an unreal save from him. The corner comes in, I think it’s McBurnie who gets a touch, McBurnie heads it down.
“He manages to get across, push it onto the bar, [Arnaut] Danjuma tries to clear it and then he saves it again. Absolute brilliant from Jordan Pickford, and he’s just won his team a point. It’s 2-2 and it’s the full-time whistle.”
This was then followed up by presenter Simon Thomas’ description: “That is extraordinary. It’s an unbelievable, unbelievable save from Jordan Pickford” amid murmurs from the other pundits live on air, audibly in shock at the save.

Proving his worth once more
Pickford is often criticised and questioned, with his continued presence as England’s first-choice goalkeeper under constant scrutiny from fans and pundits with the likes of Aaron Ramsdale and Nick Pope pushing for his spot, but he continues to prove his worth.
The goalkeeper is consistently Everton’s best player despite the difficulties the club have faced in recent years, with consistent performances a large part of the reason the club are able to survive each year.
In the game against Sheffield United, Pickford scored an unfortunate own-goal as Cameron Archer’s shot cannoned off the post before hitting the back of the diving ‘keeper and bouncing into the net, but he more than made up for that bad luck with his save.
Gareth Southgate named Pickford in his England squad once again for September’s international fixtures, and has once again been proven right by the man who has made the spot his own with stellar performances both for his national team and his club for several years.
In other Everton news, Alan Myers has shared whether Everton duo could leave after failed moves yesterday.
