Behind-the-scenes concerns emerge at Everton for Sean Dyche amid recent development

Sean Dyche is understood to be concerned by the progress of academy players being halted had they been drafted into the Everton first team, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The English media outlet reported on Monday (4 September) that an injury crisis coupled with the departures of a number of senior and academy players saw the manager leaving spots vacant on the bench v Sheffield United on Saturday.

Just seven players were named which included two reserve goalkeepers.

While Dyche may have concerns over that, he cannot use that as a reason to not have two academy kids on the bench.

Every player is at a different stage in their progression and there will be few who will be closer to the first team than others.

Having bodies in reserve is always crucial as one does not know how games transpire.

If Everton are defending a lead and have all attacking options on the bench, it’s going to be harder for them to contain the opposition.

Stepping into the senior setup is certainly a big responsibility but given how poorly things are run in the academy, the manager may have to take a gamble on his younger players.

It remains to be seen if he uses the international break to keep an eye on the progression of some of the reserves.
