Demarai Gray move from Everton to Al Ettifaq ‘done, sealed’ as Fabrizio Romano drops ‘here we go’ update

A deal between Everton and Al Ettifaq for the transfer of Demarai Gray is now “sealed,” according to Fabrizio Romano.

The reliable Italian journalist provided an update via Twitter (6 September), sharing the news that the £8million deal has been agreed and will be signed today for the permanent transfer of the 27-year-old winger.

Gray, who plays his international football for Jamaica, has already passed his medical tests with the Saudi Arabian side ahead of the switch.

He will sign a four-year contract after the move was approved by Everton.

Inevitable

This one seemed like a case of when, not if, and it appears that the when is now. After so publically falling out with his manager Sean Dyche, it was clear that Gray had no interest in playing for the Toffees anymore. This move is therefore perhaps best for all parties involved.

For Everton, it brings to an end a transfer saga that has proven to be a distraction and allows the club to now fully focus on the season ahead. Meanwhile, for Gray, it allows him to make the move away that he was so clearly keen on doing and focus on his football, as well as likely get a nice payday in the process.

Everton

He was one of the club’s highest scorers last season, but with the arrivals of Beto and Arnaut Danjuma, fans will hope that his presence isn’t missed too much going forward, as they look to score enough goals to avoid the drop.

In other Everton news, there has been some reaction to the news of another player’s exit from the club.
