Fulham open new contract talks for Harrison Reed after late Everton and Wolves transfer interest

Fulham have opened talks with Harrison Reed over a new contract after late transfer interest from Everton and Wolves during the summer, reports Evening Standard.

The Toffees asked for the conditions of a deal on deadline day for the Fulham midfielder as they were in talks to sell Alex Iwobi to the London club, but a transfer never materialised.

After rejecting a bid from Wolves though, the club have now opened talks to tie Reed down to a new deal beyond his current one which is worth around £30k per-week and runs until 2024 with the option of another year.

“Fulham are locked in talks with midfielder Harrison Reed over a new contract,” they wrote.

“Reed, 28, was open to the move to Molineux but would also be keen to stay at Craven Cottage should he be presented with suitably improved terms.

“The £6million signing from Southampton – who also has interest from Everton – remains on the same £30,000-a-week contract he signed after joining permanently in summer 2020 following a productive loan spell in west London.

“That deal expires in 2024, albeit with Fulham possessing the option to extend it automatically by a further year.”

Shame

This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on because Reed is very much a Sean Dyche type midfielder with great energy, a strong passion for winning the ball back and good ability on the ball too.

After losing Alex Iwobi on deadline day against the wishes of the manager, Everton are now one man short on options in central midfield and this is a deal that could potentially be revisited.

The club were short on funds in the summer but after selling Iwobi for £22m, Tom Cannon for £7.5m and now most recently Demarai Gray for £8m to Saudi Arabia there should be some money to spend in January.

If Reed doesn’t put pen to paper on a new deal between now and then it could be the perfect time for him to move on and Fulham to cash in, opening the way for Everton to get a deal done.

In other Everton news, the club may never see the cash from Gray’s sale as European rules emerge.
