Nicoline Sorensen describes Everton Women as ‘like a family’, excited to continue journey

Everton Women star Nicoline Sorensen has revealed the club feels like family to her and is like her second home after three years at the club, having signed a one-year contract extension earlier in the summer.

Sorensen returned to training following the Women’s World Cup, where she made three appearances for Denmark after a successful second half of last season when she returned from a long-term knee injury.

The forward made 15 appearances on her return from injury, scoring two goals and providing four assists in an impressive record, and is now targeting further success with the Toffees.

Speaking to EvertonTV on 8 September, the Denmark Women’s international revealed: “I’m so happy to stay here and to continue on for at least another year, it has become my second home, I feel like it is my family here now and I’m just so happy to stay here, to keep developing [individually] and keep developing as a team.

“I feel what we have going on here is definitely going in the right direction. I feel like last year was a really good year for us in terms of starting the process and hopefully, we can continue that this year and I’m really happy to be a part of that journey.”

She then went on to speak about her return from injury last season, stating: “The last six months of last season were really good for me in terms of getting back into football and being with the team again, but I’m still hungry to push and get better.

“Hopefully we can get even closer to the top four. [In order to achieve that] I think the foundation has to be right and the basics have to be right for us to compete and I think we did that really well last season, and we just need to build on that.”

Time to push for a strong season

Everton kick off their Women’s Super League season at home to Brighton and Hove Albion on 1 October and will be looking to get off to a strong start. Brighton finished 11th last season, five places below the sixth-placed Toffees, and will be viewed as a beatable opponent.

Sorensen will be looking forward to a first full season since her return from injury and will be looking to pick up where she left off last time out. She will be on a high after competing in her first World Cup, as well as having signed a new deal with her club.

To hear such positive news about the club and the squad will be a boost to the Everton fans, with a good atmosphere in and around the club is always a welcome boost, and a good sign of improvement as they look to push higher up the table.

Having lofty ambitions will also be a positive at the Merseyside club, as everybody looks to aim high and be the best they possibly can be for their teammates and for the better of the side.
