Uniao Tires’ president makes ‘rare trait’ claim about Everton striker Beto
Everton striker Beto has a “rare trait” that will help him to succeed in the Premier League, according to the president of his former club, Fernando Lopes.
The 25-year-old signed for the Toffees in a deal worth £25.75million (Sky Sports News, 29 August) from Serie A outfit Udinese toward the end of the summer transfer window.
He made his debut for the club just one day later against Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup, scoring in a 2-1 win for Sean Dyche’s men. The Portuguese striker would then play against Sheffield United the following Saturday, helping his teammates earn their first Premier League point of the season during a 2-2 draw at Bramall Lane.

And the president of his former club, Uniao Tires, has now offered a greater insight into Everton’s latest addition to their squad.
“Beto has always had great self-esteem. He always believed he would succeed as a footballer. He always had a positive attitude and very well-defined goals in this regard. He has a rare trait, he is always able to project the future,” Lopes told the Echo (9 September).
“Much of his rise is down to Beto’s ambition to be a player. He was always very focused on his work and very humble. Beto always made himself available and would train a lot. He always believed that with hard work he could be successful.
“Now Beto has all the physical and mental attributes to be a focal point for Everton and an asset to the Premier League.”
Impact
It is clear from his very short time at the club that Beto can be a big hit on Merseyside. He has plenty of qualities that Evertonians admire in a striker and arguably fits the mould of a player that the Toffees have been lacking for years – a big, strong number nine who is able to lead the line effectively.
Considering Dyche’s men hadn’t scored a goal until his first appearance, and they would then go on to score four times in two games after, it is obvious that he is already having an impact. Although he only scored one of these four goals himself, his presence is making a big difference in the way the team is playing.

With that in mind, and following the comments of Lopes, fans at Goodison Park will suddenly be feeling a lot more confident about turning their poor start around, and avoiding a third consecutive relegation battle this season.
In other Everton news, the club have been handed an eight-figure lifeline ahead of January.
