Andy Gray shares Everton verdict with Sean Dyche backed to keep Toffees up
Andy Gray still fears Everton may be relegated from the Premier League, but that there is nobody better for the job at Goodison Park than Sean Dyche.
The Toffees currently sit 18th in the Premier League only above newly promoted Luton Town and Burnley, who have each played one game fewer than Dyche’s side, and they have only managed to score two goals in their opening four games.
Everton did add to their forward line during the transfer window with the arrival of Beto in the hope that the Portuguese forward would provide the goals to keep the Toffees in the top flight. However, former Goodison forward Gray still isn’t convinced Dyche’s team will have enough.

Speaking in an interview with the Daily Mail (10 September), he said: “Dismayed, distraught, whatever adjective you want to use. Everton are paying the price for years of mismanagement. They’ve been circling the plug for three years and of course, I fear for them again this season.
“This is the biggest challenge Sean has ever faced in management and that includes keeping Burnley in the Premier League. People talk about Graham Potter. Do me a favour, what could he do better than Sean with the current group of players.”
Backing
There doesn’t seem to be much desire from anyone involved with Everton to see Dyche depart so early in the season, as it is quite clear the former Burnley boss’ hands are tied at Goodison in terms of adding quality to his team.
Gray is a champion of the old-school ways that Dyche employs at Everton, after all, he and Richard Keys are the two pundits who suggested Frank Lampard would be a better fit for Chelsea than Julian Naglesmann, so his shutdown of Potter shouldn’t come as a shock.

The former Chelsea and Brighton boss is an excellent football manager. Despite his failure at Stamford Bridge, he has proven he was a success in the Premier League, but he is not what Everton need at this moment in time as they look to be facing relegation once more.
Everton don’t need to play particularly nice football. What they do need to do is find a way to stay in the Premier League and if there is one manager who has managed to do that previously with limited resources, it was Dyche at Burnley.
Hopefully, the Toffees will have enough to avoid the drop as their performances so far this season have warranted more points than they’ve already earned and Gray’s fears won’t become reality.
