Everton midfielder Andre Gomes now unlikely to feature at Goodison Park again

Everton midfielder Andre Gomes undoubtedly has appeared to have made his last-ever appearance at Goodison Park with an exit seemingly set in stone.

The 30-year-old spent last season on loan at Lille where he impressed and the Ligue 1 side surprisingly did not look to sign him permanently.

With the majority of European markets closing, it seemed like the Portugal international would be staying for another season, but there appears to be some late twists.

Turkish media outlet AS Marca wrote on Twitter on 11 September, “Trabzonspor is about to add central midfielder Andre Gomes, who plays for Everton, to its squad.”

As the window in Turkey is still open, clubs there can buy and sell players so Gomes can be registered to play in the 2023/24 season.

Sports Digitale journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu reported on the same day that even Fenerbahce are looking to secure the services of the Portuguese midfielder.

They’ve been in the hunt for a number six all summer and appear to have decided that the 30-year-old will fit the bill for them.

The Toffees have no issues in parting ways with Gomes who’s not understood to be a part of Sean Dyche’s plans going forward.

Sozcu reported on 12 September that they’ve indeed offered the midfielder to Everton and it’s now down to the Fenerbahce manager about making an offer for him.

It’s safe to say that fans at Goodison Park are not likely to see the Portugal international don a Blues jersey again.
