Everton receive £100m loan from MSP Sports Capital for Bramley Moore Dock Stadium

Everton have received a £100m loan from MSP Sports Capital to help fund the building of the new Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium, reports The Esk.

Writing on his personal website (12 September), the journalist who has previously worked for the likes of the Daily Mail, reports that he has received confirmation of the money being transferred between May and August 2023.

MSP Sports Capital were in talks about acquiring a stake in the club but those talks collapsed last month. The £100m loan has still gone ahead however, which removes the immediate risk of administration according to the journalist.

“Breaking news – confirmation of more than £100 million of loans made by MSP Sports Capital between May and August this year to Everton Stadium Development holding company,” he wrote.

“This is extremely good news for Everton and for our fans. It removes any threat of administration, secures a significant amount of the additional funding for the stadium and paves the way for further investment or the completion of a senior debt package to complete and secure the long term funding for Bramley-Moore.”

Excellent

Finally some good news for Everton fans to sink their teeth into after what has been a tough few weeks.

The transfer window didn’t go exactly to plan after losing Alex Iwobi and Demarai Gray late on despite Sean Dyche admitting that wasn’t something he wanted, while the club failed with a late move for Wilfried Gnonto at Leeds.

After the talks with MSP about a takeover collapsed there was no doubt this loan would still go ahead, but it’s great to hear that the payments have already taken place and it’s one less thing for fans to worry about.

With news coming out on Tuesday (12 September) that 777 Partners are in “advanced talks” about a full takeover which would see Farhad Moshiri step aside, some fans are unsure about the future of the club right now.

But The Esk is adamant no such deal is imminent anyway, and now with news that the stadium loan has been received there is far less rush for things to happen quickly.
