Ally McCoist shares ‘Sympathy’ for Everton with Newcastle United cited amid takeover news

Ally McCoist believes Everton are in the same position as Newcastle were before they were taken over and admits he has “sympathy” with the fans.

The Toffees are said to be close to being taken over by 777 Partners with the Miami-based investment firm in “advanced talks” with Farhad Moshiri about a full takeover of the club.

And McCoist, while speaking on talkSPORT’s breakfast show (13 September), admitted he can see similarities between where the Toffees are and where Newcastle were before the PIF stepped in and took over from Mike Ashley.

“You’ve got to say, I’m in the same boat I was in with Newcastle fans for years with Everton fans,” he said.

“You’ve got to have a great deal of sympathy for them. When you look at Everton fans and Newcastle fans, they’re similar in the respect of the way they support their club.

“Newcastle, for years and years and years were wanting new ownership and new direction and I just think Everton are in the exact same position as Newcastle have been.”

Light at the end of the tunnel

Everton have been through the ringer in recent years, and the fans have been the only constant positive in that time on or off the pitch.

After narrowly avoiding relegation two years in a row, fans have become tired and fed up of the current ownership. A clear divide is in place with allegations thrown around and protests taking place that means there are irreconcilable differences between the two parties.

But similarly to Ashley, Moshiri currently won’t budge unless he receives the money he wants and the club is suffering for it because of a lack of investment and interest from the owner.

We deserve so much more and this club is so big and historic that it simply shouldn’t be in the position it currently finds itself in.

Hopefully a takeover can happen sooner rather than later to help get us out of trouble, but it has to be the right new owner and not just the first person to step up to get Moshiri out.

In other Everton news, Gary Lineker believes a takeover could be “too late” to save Everton.
