Long-awaited Andre Gomes exit now just days away as Everton transfer news emerge

Everton midfielder Andre Gomes is now just days away from ending his Goodison Park nightmare with two Turkish sides ready to make their move ahead of Friday’s deadline.

Turkish football news outlet AS Marca who have amassed nearly 25k followers on Twitter, reported on Monday (11 September) that the Portugal international appears set to leave with Trabzanspor keen on his signature.

The Turkish transfer window closes on Friday 15 September and the Everton midfielder who failed to secure a move during the UK transfer window is now edging closer to his Goodison Park exit.

Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, taking to his Twitter account also reported on 11 September that Super Lig giants Fenerbache are also interested in the Portuguese midfielder as they search for a defensive midfielder and believe the 30-year-old would be perfect for the role.

Daily Mail also reported on 12 September that the Turkish giants are showing a willingness to get a deal done before their transfer deadline on Friday, with Everton desperate to get him off their books.

The 30-year-old has been linked with a permanent exit from Goodison Park for all of about two years now but a move never seemed to materialise.

It’s been a long while since Gomes last starred in front of the Everton fanbase with his last Premier League appearance coming against Crystal Palace on home turf in May 2022 [Transfermarkt].

Since then the 29-time Portuguese international had a loan spell at LOSC Lille which proved rather successful featuring in 26 Ligue 1 games, scoring three goals and registering two assists.

A return to France looked to be on the cards at some during the summer but no move came to fruition and with his contract having under a year to run, Everton will do incredibly well to get some sort of fee for his expected and inevitable exit.

It seems like now, with two clubs keen on signing him ahead of the Turkish transfer deadline on Friday 15 September, things may progress quickly.

Both Trabzonspor and Fenerbahce will be fighting for European qualifications and perhaps even the league title this season, which Gomes could contribute heavily to at either club.

Everton must certainly capitalise on the interest shown in the Portuguese and get the most money they can for his services because his career on Merseyside has been over for a long while now.

It’s now just days until both parties can finally go their separate ways.
