Everton defender Ashley Young names which manager scared him more than Sean Dyche does

Everton ace Ashley Young has shared Sir Alex Ferguson scares him more than Sean Dyche does, and confessed to still being scared of him now, as he still refers to his former manager as “The Boss”.

Young claimed that even now when his phone rings and he sees it’s the former Manchester United manager, his reaction is to turn any music down and make sure he’s professional.

He also detailed how he will still refer to Ferguson as “the boss” despite having had many new managers since, in a mark of respect to the legendary Scottish manager, with whom Young won the Premier League title.

Speaking on talkSPORT on 14 September, Young was asked the question by host Alan Brazil: “Who’s scarier, Fergie or Dychey?” to which the Everton man responded: “The Boss, I’d say.”

The former Manchester United winger continued: “I can’t even call him Fergie because he is still the boss.

“I said to someone the other day when he rings your phone and you see the boss ringing you, it’s like, ‘turn the music down’, you’re still scared of him when you’re answering. Even now!”

Prior to the question on who scares him more, Young described Dyche as “an old-school manager” and added: “But he has moved with the times. That’s just the way football is now, you have to move with the times.

“He’s a hard worker and he wants you to work hard. That’s just a given, you have to go and work hard.

“He’s a manager that just lets the players go and play, express themselves, and like I say if you’re putting in the hard work he’s always going to be there backing you.”

Dyche is clearly still well respected

It shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that the former Manchester United winger who won Premier League, Europa League and FA Cup winners medals at United, the first of those under Ferguson’s stewardship, still names the Scot as his most revered boss, but there was clear respect shown for Dyche.

The Everton manager’s no-nonsense style does command respect among his players, and even experienced names like Young are no exception, with his “old-school” style clearly having an impact on the man who arrived during the summer transfer window.

Dyche will be hoping to one day replicate even part of the success the former Manchester United boss achieved, which is a huge part of how well respected he is by everybody who worked under him before his retirement in 2013.

It would certainly have been a shock had Young named Dyche as a “scarier” manager than Ferguson, particularly given he has only been working with him for around two months, and considering the stories from former Man United players about Ferguson’s tenure.
