Jim White shares ‘be careful what you wish for’ verdict live on talkSPORT after confirmed Everton takeover news

Everton supporters will be relieved at the takeover news concerning the club, according to talkSPORT host Jim White.

As per the official Everton website (15 September), 777 Partners has signed an agreement with Farhad Moshiri to acquire his full stake in the club.

That stake from Moshiri accounts for 94.1% of the club’s shares, the Merseyside outfit added, but White has urged caution amid the deal.

“Everton fans, one would think, to a large extent are relieved this morning,” White said live on talkSPORT. “But it might well be a case of be careful what you wish for.

“Everton as a club, if the right people get their hands on this club, there’s no telling what it could become.”

Interesting times

These are certainly interesting times for the prestigious club that is Everton, who have struggled massively in recent years.

The Toffees are nowhere near the level they should be at, having been involved in a Premier League relegation battle for the last two seasons.

Having stayed up on the final day last time out, their struggles have continued into the new campaign, with the Toffees currently sitting 18th in the table after four matches, with just one point to their name.

Fans will, however, view the takeover news as a turning point, with many supporters set to be very happy to finally see the back of Moshiri.

They won’t be celebrating just yet, however, with the closing of the transaction expected to occur in the fourth quarter of 2023, remaining subject to regulatory approval.

The 777 Football Group has plenty of experience within the sport, currently comprising the likes of Genoa CFC, Hertha BSC, Melbourne Victory and Sevilla among others.

In other Everton news, a BBC journalist has mooted a rejuvenated career for one Toffees loanee after his “no-brainer” Goodison Park exit.
