Mikel Arteta: Everton future looks ‘very exciting’ despite ‘tough times’ after takeover news
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has claimed the future for Everton looks “very exciting” after a long period of “tough times”.
Speaking ahead of Everton’s clash against Arsenal on Sunday 17 September, the Gunners boss claims the new Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium and “everything they’re trying to do” are positive signs for the club’s future.
Arteta pointed to methods of overcoming difficult times, as Everton confirmed (15 September) that 777 Partners had agreed to acquire Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1% stake in the club.

Arteta said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo (15 September): “That’s the history of football clubs and the challenges that we all have right now is the competition.
“The project that they have there with the new stadium and everything that they are trying to do is very exciting as well. But, like everybody, you have tough times. It’s how you overcome those situations to become better.
“Obviously I have a big emotional attachment to that football club, the way they treated me and the years that I spent there. The incredible memories that I have, so [I’m] always grateful. It was a big, big part of my playing career, and now as a coach I have to play against them and obviously I want to beat them.”
Silver lining?
Arteta seems optimistic about the future of the club. Despite the obvious financial issues Everton have been facing, there are some possible silver linings for Everton fans.
The new stadium could prove very cost-effective, once it’s finally completed. With a projected capacity of over 52,000, it is hoped that it will significantly boost the Toffees’ matchday income and provide fans with a modern stadium to watch their club.

Arteta, who spent a significant part of his professional playing career at Everton with 209 total appearances, clearly values the club and cares about its future. While he did not react directly to any takeover news, he will wish the club the best in their future ambitions – except on Sunday.
The Gunners boss was playing for Arsenal when Moshiri took over Everton in February 2016, but recent times have been a struggle for the Toffees.
Fans and former players alike will be keen to see their fortunes switch, but the future remains uncertain for now.
