Finance Expert reacts to Everton transfer news on Beto spending

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton

Dan Plumley has insisted that Everton are not in a position to spend over £100m anymore after they were forced to get smart to sign Beto over the summer.

The Guardian reported after the £26m signing was confirmed that the first payment is still not due until the next financial year at Goodison Park.

The finance expert admitted that it was no surprise to see very few signings by Sean Dyche, although Premier League survival is critical to continue doing deals such as this one.

“For me, that’s absolutely what you are seeing,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“We know the finances, we know the precarious position they are in, we know that they’ve not got the ability to spend £150m in the transfer market with no questions asked.

It’s no surprise to see very few incomings in general, and the big one they did land, has been spread out and the majority will be paid at a later date.

It’s symptomatic of where the club find themselves and push that further down the line, they need to be in the Premier League to keep going at this rate so survival on the pitch is becoming more and more important.”
