Jack Harrison debut update shared by Sean Dyche amid news on Dominic Calvert-Lewin – Early Everton team news vs Brentford

Jack Harrison is not “ready to go yet” despite being back in training at Everton while Dominic Calvert-Lewin is “training well”, Sean Dyche has said.

The Toffees boss said in his pre-match press conference (21 September) ahead of the game against Brentford on Saturday that the on-loan Leeds United man would need to be delayed “a little bit” as he returns to fitness after the hip injury he arrived with.

He is also indicated that Dwight McNeil may have come back slightly too quickly and hasn’t reached 100% yet either, after the winger started against Arsenal last week.

Kickstart

It doesn’t take a genius to recognise the form that the Toffees have started the season in is ripe for getting them into yet another relegation battle.

Not every performance has been a total disaster, and had Everton secured the two home wins against Fulham and Wolves that they probably merited then everything would be looking a lot less miserable.

But the fact is they didn’t get anything from either of those matches, largely because they have a major problem putting the ball in the net.

Everton

Dyche and Kevin Thelwell have signed players this summer that are supposed to increase the ability to both create and finish chances, although as ever the sting in the tail is that they have also lost a few with Alex Iwobi, Demarai Gray and Ellis Simms leaving.

If the manager could ever have a full set of options to call on for a few games running without injuries biting then he would have a better chance of his players getting into a rhythm, and it at least sounds like that is coming.

His job is starting to face pressure in a way it arguably hasn’t yet since his January arrival, and while he can justifiably point to his being a harder one than most in the top flight, and questions can easily be raised over what realistic alternative there is right now, results have to improve quickly.
