Beto can be difference-maker v Brentford as Everton set-piece threat emerges, better than Liverpool

Everton have really struggled in the Premier League this season, with the Toffees yet to win from their five matches so far.

And things won’t get any easier for Sean Dyche’s men, with a trip to Thomas Frank’s Brentford up next on Saturday (23 September).

With just one win so far, the Bees haven’t exactly gotten off to the best start either, but they have had some tough games, and do look a real threat when in full flow.

They have already found the back of the net eight times this season, in stark contrast to Everton’s two goals. Surprisingly, however, the Toffees sit third in the list when it comes to set-piece threat in the Premier League this season.

Only their next opponents Brentford (26) and Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham (25) have had more set-piece shots than Everton (24) this season, as per the official Premier League website.

That figure places the Merseyside outfit ahead of leaders Manchester City, fierce rivals Liverpool and Premier League giants Chelsea, with that trio on 22.

At 194cm, summer signing Beto should definitely be targeted from set-pieces in West London on Saturday. His aerial presence really could make the difference, while at 195cm, his Toffees teammate Jarrad Branthwaite should also be sought-after from set-pieces.

That does, of course, require a talented player delivering the ball, with Dwight McNeil expected to be the man to try and find his teammates from free-kicks and corners.

Given Everton’s real struggles to find the back of the net, Dyche really should be focusing plenty of his training ground work on set-pieces.

In other Everton news, a Premier League pundit has mooted an “interesting” duel in the club’s upcoming clash with Brentford.
