Chris Sutton questions Everton fan expectations amid Sean Dyche sack verdict

Sean Dyche’s dismissal from Everton would be “foolish” as he is the ideal manager to help them through their crisis, according to Chris Sutton.

Speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off Podcast (21 September), the pundit was steadfast in his defence of the Toffees’ boss but made it clear that Everton would struggle this season no matter what.

While praising the signing of Beto, Sutton claimed that Dyche’s performances so far have matched Everton fans’ expectations of the season.

Everton

Sutton said: “What were Everton fans’ expectations at the start of the season? I suspect most Everton fans knew they were going to be in another relegation battle.

“They haven’t spent big money. I think Beto was a decent signing, but they were always going to struggle. I don’t think any Everton fan was thinking they were going to get European football.

“It’s a slow builder for Everton. It would be foolish for them to think about sacking Sean Dyche. He is the right man for this environment which Everton are in.”

Less than Great Expectations

Following a poor start to the season, many have questioned if Dyche is the right man for the job at Goodison Park anymore.

A winless start has reaped just a single point in the opening five fixtures – a hard-fought draw against Sheffield United. However, it is no secret that the vast majority of the squad is not up to Premier League standard. The ones that are have only just arrived or can’t find themselves out of the doctor’s office for too long.

Even if the club wanted to, the Daily Mail’s report (21 September) claims the Toffees may not have the funds to let the former Burnley boss go, as a £4million dismissal clause looks too steep a bill to foot.

That being said, Dyche is well-versed in relegation scraps and very few managers on the market would be able to do what he’s done so far this season.

Unless Pep Guardiola finds himself unemployed in the next few weeks, Dyche is the best Toffees fans can hope for – at the moment.

While the takeover still slowly comes to completion – if at all – it is likely that Dyche will bring his husky voice and straight-to-the-point character to Finch Farm for the foreseeable.
