Alan Smith slams Beto after ‘bad mistake’ for Everton v Brentford
Alan Smith has slammed Beto after what he did in the first half of the 3-1 win for Everton against Brentford on Saturday (23 September).
Speaking on co-commentary for Sky Sports (06:07pm), the pundit said it was a “bad mistake” from the Portuguese forward when he missed a one-on-one with the Bees keeper Mark Flekken.
He added that it was a “long way from being a clean connection” as the 25-year-old missed the opportunity to put his side ahead at half-time against Brentford, but an excellent second-half performance secured the Toffees a 3-1 victory in West London.

“Misses his kick big time,” said Smith. “I don’t know if it was a double hit, he’s hit it onto his standing leg – whatever it was, it was a bad mistake from Beto.
“He must fancy he’s got it in him today to get a goal. He’s just hooked it wide – a long way from being a clean connection. He hits it into the ground.”
No composure
It was a huge chance for Beto to score his first Premier League goal and put Everton back in the lead after they had just been pegged back following a Mathias Jensen equaliser.
But he showed absolutely no composure when it really counted as he scuffed his effort narrowly wide of the post after being played in behind.
The Portuguese really has to be taking those opportunities as he has been brought in to score the goals to guide the Toffees away from danger this season.

The Blues’ problem hasn’t been necessarily making chances, as the game against Brentford showed once again, it’s just converting in the key moments that has alluded them.
It was, however, a great run from the forward and you would like to think that, if he continues getting in behind defences, he will find the back of the net more often than not.
In other Everton news, a £4million payoff update has emerged to sack Sean Dyche.
