Everton ‘really good’ verdict shared on talkSPORT as ‘unbelievably passive’ claim made
Nobody could have predicted that Everton would beat Brentford in their Premier League clash, according to talkSPORT’s Sam Matterface.
Pundit Perry Groves agreed with the verdict after the Toffees defeated the Bees 3-1 at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday (23 September).
The victory was the Merseyside club’s first of the Premier League campaign, and lifted them to 15th place in the table.

Speaking on the Premier League All Access Podcast on talkSPORT, Matterface said: “Everton got their first victory of the season by beating Brentford 3-1. This was a really good performance from Everton, and I must admit I didn’t see it coming.”
Groves replied: “I don’t think anybody did to be fair, especially when you look at Everton’s performance against Arsenal where they were unbelievably passive. Then they go to Brentford, and Brentford’s home record is outstanding.”

Massive win
The victory in West London really is a massive one for Sean Dyche and his players, not least because it lifts the club out of the relegation zone.
However, perhaps more importantly in these early stages, it will do the Toffees the world of good in terms of confidence.
Confidence levels have been really low at the club in recent times, primarily because their struggles continued into the new season after they only narrowly avoided relegation to the Championship, not only last time out but also in the campaign before that.
There is still a lot of work to be done behind the scenes, but the manager should be overjoyed with his players after their performance against a talented Brentford side.
The Bees haven’t had the best of starts to the new season either, but it is a massive statement to go to their home ground and produce a showing like that.
