Garth Crooks wowed by ‘superb’ Abdoulaye Doucoure in Everton 3-1 win v Brentford

Abdoulaye Doucoure netted a “superb” goal for Everton in their 3-1 win against Brentford, according to BBC Sport pundit Garth Crooks.

The midfielder scored the opening goal of his side’s victory in West London on Saturday (23 September)., finding the back of the net just six minutes into the match.

Defender James Tarkowski and striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin also scored in the win that took Everton up to 15th in the table.

Naming Doucoure in his Team of the Week, Crooks wrote for BBC Sport (24 September): “Brentford may have only lost one of their previous 18 home league games but that didn’t cut any ice with Everton. The nod down by Tarkowski was precise but the finish by Doucoure for Everton’s opening goal was superb.

“I’ve seen the Mali international sky opportunities like that before but not on this occasion. It would appear a masterstroke by manager Sean Dyche to move Doucoure further up the field where his height and presence is clearly proving to be a problem for the opposition. It certainly did against Brentford.”

Hugely impressive

Doucoure often pops up with important and indeed impressive goals for the Toffees, and he did that once again against the Bees.

But it wasn’t just about impressive individual moments from the away players, with Sean Dyche’s entire team putting in a fantastic performance. It was a very hard fought battle, but the manager came out on top over his counterpart Thomas Frank in the dugout.

Midfield ace Doucoure now has two goals for the current Premier League campaign, having also scored in the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United earlier this month.

Dyche will perhaps want his attackers hitting the back of the net more often, with the likes of Beto and Arnaut Danjuma certainly needing to up their game in this regard.

At the same time, however, the manager and indeed all supporters of the club will just be relieved that the scoring struggles of late did not continue against Brentford.

In other Everton news, a former Goodison Park ace has sent Dominic Calvert-Lewin a one-word message after the club’s win against Brentford.
