Alan Shearer gushes over Everton defender James Tarkowski v Brentford

Alan Shearer was thrilled with the performance of Everton centre-back James Tarkowski in the 3-1 victory against Brentford on Saturday, 25 September.

Not only did the English defender keep the opponents at bay on a number of occasions, he also managed to find the back of the net.

He also won key headers inside the opposition box, one of which led to Abdoulaye Doucoure finding the back of the net.

Shearer told the Premier League website, “The centre-back was a menace in Brentford’s box, providing a goal and an assist, while he was also a commanding presence in defence.”

Stunning display

Tarkowski was arguably the best Everton player last season and this time around too, he’s proving just what an important asset he is to this side.

He joined on a free transfer from Burnley at a time when money was extremely tight at the club.

Since moving to Goodison Park, he has done better than players who’ve signed for multi-million fees and quietly goes on about his business every week.

There’s a reason why Sean Dyche liked him so much at Turf Moor and will have been delighted to work with him again.

This result was a relief for the Toffees and the manager as relegation woes were dawning again but they somehow managed to get further away from the drop zone.

There’s still plenty of work to be done but it was a good platform to build some momentum on.

In other Everton news, a condition has now emerged on Sean Dyche being sacked amid trouble behind the scenes at Goodison Park.
