Journalist drops Dominic Calvert-Lewin verdict after Everton win v Brentford
Journalist Paul Brown has called for Everton to start Dominic Calvert-Lewin in their next games after his goal in the win over Brentford.
The former England striker returned from a facial injury and came off the substitutes bench to score in an impressive 3-1 win on the road to help lift the team out of the relegation zone.
And now he says there is an “argument” for the 27-year-old to come straight back into the starting lineup for the upcoming game with Aston Villa in the EFL Cup and Premier League fixture against Luton at the weekend.

“It was a massive win for confidence really, as much as anything else,” he said while speaking to GiveMeSport (25 September).
“I don’t think Everton have been playing that badly, particularly. Probably have deserved more points than they’ve got. The big thing for me was seeing Calvert-Lewin score. I think that will do him the world of good.
“There’s an argument now for putting him back in the team from the start, we’ll see. The next two games, I know everyone’s trying to be realistic, but you go into games trying to win them, right? I’m pretty sure Sean Dyche is going to be targeting two wins from the next two games.
“And they do suddenly look a lot more winnable than perhaps they would have done last week. So you hope that they can build some momentum from what happened this weekend.”
Time for change
Everton have been putting in decent performances and until the Brentford game we weren’t really getting our rewards for it.
But with the extra quality of Calvert-Lewin on the pitch instead of Beto, who ran hard and played well, we saw the level of the team go up and improve.

With a big cup game in the week the team will be hopeful of winning and progressing to the next round while also maintaining the momentum built up from the weekend and looking to keep the mood up ahead of the weekend.
If fans are given the choice of beating Aston Villa or Luton then everyone will pick Luton for sure, because it will increase the gap away from the relegation zone and that’s far more important than a cup run right now.
But getting some more minutes into key players, avoiding injuries and turning in another good performance are all ideal and hopefully can be done this week.
