Sue Smith wowed by what ‘brilliant’ Everton players did in victory v Aston Villa

Sue Smith was wowed by what she saw from the Everton players in their victory over Aston Villa on Wednesday (27 September).

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Soccer Special on Wednesday (10:05pm), the pundit said the Toffees were “excellent” in the first half as they took a 1-0 lead in at the break.

But she was most impressed by how “brilliant” the Blues were off the ball as they were “well organised” on their way to securing a 2-1 win at Villa Park in the Carabao Cup.

“I thought that first half Everton were excellent,” said Smith. “They were brilliant off the ball, they were well organised, they pressed high from the front. That’s how their first goal sort of come about really.”

Getting there

It looks as though Everton are finally getting towards where they need to be as a team to pick up results and start moving forward.

Although the results weren’t great at the start of the campaign, the performances weren’t all bad, the Toffees just couldn’t find the back of the net.

But with five goals in their last two games, which had looked like tricky away fixtures, things are looking much brighter for the Merseysiders than they perhaps were a week or so ago.

They now appear to be working better as a unit, as Smith alluded to, with their work off the ball limiting their opponents’ chances and forcing errors higher up the pitch.

The Blues will be looking to continue building over the next few weeks in the hope that they can start moving up the Premier League table and away from any potential trouble this season.
