Everton have ‘unique’ argument with Dele Alli talks underway with Tottenham

Talks are underway between Everton and Tottenham over the terms of the Dele Alli deal, according to Paddy Boyland.

The Athletic journalist reported on Friday (29 September) that the two clubs are yet to find a resolution, as the Toffees are required to pay £10million once the 27-year-old reaches 20 appearances, with his current tally sitting at 13.

But he said the Blues’ argument will be that this is a “unique situation” and that the best thing for the English midfielder is to play as he looks to work his way back to full fitness.

Everton

Tough

It’s a tough situation because Tottenham are within their rights to expect to receive £10million if Alli does eventually play 20 games for Everton after that was included in the agreement.

Daniel Levy is known for being a difficult person to negotiate with and he will not want to give up the opportunity to receive the money without a good reason.

But the Toffees do have one, as their financial situation means they may not be able to afford to hand over that much cash for a player who needs some time to work his way back to getting anywhere near his best.

Everton

Given Spurs’ obvious emotional attachment to the midfielder, surely they would want to see him be provided with an opportunity to play after what he has been through over the past few years.

It’s a tricky one to navigate, but if the player’s welfare is placed at the heart of the talks, then you would like to think a compromise can be reached and he’ll be back out there playing before too long.
