Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer agree as ‘devastating’ Everton concern emerges
Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer agreed on a concern that has emerged for Everton after they were beaten by Luton Town on Saturday (30 September).
Speaking on Match of the Day on Saturday (51:00), Lineker said it was a “devastating defeat” for the Toffees, adding that it is a “cause for concern” after the 2-1 loss to the Hatters made it four straight home defeats at the start of this season.
Shearer agreed with the presenter and pointed to the Blues’ fixture against Bournemouth next Saturday (7 October) as a “huge game” for the club.

“It’s a devastating defeat for Everton,” said Lineker. “That’s four straight defeats at home this season. It’s cause for concern, isn’t it?”
“It’s real cause for concern, yeah,” said Shearer. “Only scored one goal as well and they’ve got Bournemouth at home next week, so that is a huge game again for them. But they are creating, just missing so many chances.”
Damaging
That was potentially a really damaging defeat for Everton because it was a massive opportunity to pick up their first win at home this season.
Aside from the game against Arsenal, the fixtures have all been ones the Blues would have been expecting to win at Goodison Park, so that is a real concern.
The defeat to Luton came just at a time when things appeared to have turned a corner for the Toffees, too, on the back of two superb away wins.

They now simply have to beat Bournemouth next week because it would be a real struggle to survive the drop if the home form continues the way it has been going.
While the number of chances being created will provide Sean Dyche with some comfort that things will eventually come together, it has to happen sooner rather than later to ensure they don’t get dragged into another relegation battle.
In other Everton news, the club are holding talks over the terms of a transfer.
