Simon Jordan and Jim White clash live on air as Everton relegation verdict shared

Simon Jordan and Jim White have clashed live on air about what would have happened if Frank Lampard had remained at Everton last season.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Tuesday (3 October), host White asked what the former Toffees boss was supposed to do at Goodison Park, with Jordan claiming he should have done “better”.

The pundit then predicted that the Englishman would have got the Blues relegated if they didn’t bring in Sean Dyche to replace him in January.

“But what was Frank meant to do at Everton at the time he went in?” asked White.

“Better,” replied Jordan.

“Firefight, keep them up – and he did,” said White.

Jordan added: “If they didn’t bring in Sean Dyche in January, Frank would’ve got them relegated.”

“But Sean hasn’t exactly found it an easy patch to work,” replied White.

“That’s not the point I’m making,” said Jordan. “They would be sitting in the Championship now and we’d be able to say that Frank didn’t have the toolkit to keep them in the Premier League. No one expected Everton to be top 10, but they didn’t expect them to be relegated, either.”

Wasn’t good enough

The disagreement between Jordan and White came after Lampard has been heavily linked with the Rangers job following the sacking of Michael Beale.

Although he did reasonably well to keep Everton up in his first few months on Merseyside, he couldn’t take the club forward last season before he was relieved of his duties at the start of this year.

Jordan is right that there is a very good chance that the Toffees would have been relegated if they had allowed him to continue after their poor form in the first half of the campaign.

Dyche came in and got things moving in the right direction and some late form towards the end of the season ensured that the Blues remained in the Premier League.

They haven’t really kicked on too much this season yet, but the majority of the club’s fans would argue that they feel much safer in the current manager’s hands than they ever were under Lampard.
