Jerome Boateng makes Everton transfer decision after talks to sign ex-Man City free agent

Jerome Boateng has turned down interest from Everton after holding talks with the club, according to TEAMTALK.

The news outlet reported on its website on Thursday (5 October) that the Germany international is training with Bayern Munich and is keen to secure a contract with the Bundesliga giants.

The 35-year-old, who used to play for the Toffees’ Premier League rivals Manchester City, is a free agent after his two-year spell in France with Lyon came to an end following the expiration of his contract in June.

Frustrating

This development will have been extremely frustrating for Sean Dyche as he looks to add his defensive options following a tricky start to the season.

The Blues haven’t been entirely convincing at the back, so the manager would have been keen to bring in a player of Boateng’s experience.

It would have been a unique opportunity to sign the centre-back as he hasn’t had a club since leaving Lyon at the end of last season.

But it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to see him favouring a move back to Bayern after he has been training with them recently.

Even though his opportunities would have been greater with the Toffees, the defender has a long history with the German side after playing for them for 10 years before leaving Munich for Lyon in 2021.
