Finance Expert reacts to administration suggestions at Everton

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton

Dan Plumley has insisted that he does not see Everton falling into administration, with a danger of overreaction once the term is used around a specific club.

Despite it being suggested at Goodison Park, the Liverpool Echo reported that there are a lack of issues with HMRC with other red flags missing for that to happen.

The finance expert admitted that unless there are things that aren’t being seen or released, the finances are more likely a Premier League issue than one involving administration.

“There is a danger that there is an overreaction when that term gets used,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“Actually, the reality of it is probably far from it, you often see these things and HMRC tends to be involved from an unpaid tax point of view more so than anything.

Given the nature of the club, being a Premier League club, yes we know there are financial challenges linked to the ownership structure, but we’ve not seen anything around HMRC potentially being concerned or talks of administration on that level.

I think it’s dangerous to look at that and overreact at this point in time, I just don’t see it.

Unless there is something we are not seeing, I just don’t see it because obviously, either way, you have an owner that has been footing up the football club for the past few years and that’s been absorbing those losses.

I think it’s more of a Premier League and FFP problem than it is an administration problem. as we’re talking right now.”
