Kieran Maguire makes Everton ‘red flags’ admission as 777 Partners news emerges

There are a lot of red flags regarding 777 Partners as it looks to complete a takeover at Everton, according to Kieran Maguire.

The New York Times reported on Tuesday (10 October) that American Express went to court in March seeking $324,000 (£264,794) that had been charged to a 777 Partners credit card.

Speaking on The Price of Football podcast on Thursday (12 October), football finance expert Maguire said you would expect an organisation to be able to fund that amount of money and predicted more information to come to light over the course of the next few days.

“The work of some other Everton fans who have looked into the background of 777, there are lots of red flags,” said Maguire. “777 have failed to pay by all accounts British Basketball, that was only £1million.

“If this money due to the credit card company is £200,000, I appreciate that is a good month of spending, no one is denying that but you would expect an organisation to be able to fund that.

“There are various other things, which I suspect will come to light over the course of the next few days as this type of reporting is likely to be repeated. It does make you feel uneasy from Everton’s point of view.”

Concerning

It must be becoming more concerning by the day for Everton fans as information comes to light on the recent financial dealings of 777 Partners.

It just raises the question of how on earth the company expects to be able to run a Premier League club and complete the new stadium if it can’t make these relatively low payments in sporting terms.

If the group does manage to pull off the takeover of the Toffees, then it won’t be able to get away with these late payments because it could have a detrimental impact on the club.

It does feel as though that could be becoming more unlikely because the Premier League are going to have to deem that the firm is fit and proper, which many will take the view that it isn’t.

These are tough times for the Blues supporters because all they want is a team to be proud of and the club’s future to not be in danger, but it doesn’t seem like much clarity will be provided for a while yet.

In other Everton news, the club could be set to make a move for a forward after a journalist has mooted a January transfer.
