Sean Dyche handed January transfer boost as Everton-linked Kalvin Phillips update emerges

Everton could certainly do with a handful of new players arriving in the January transfer window given their poor start to the season.

The Merseyside outfit sit 16th in the Premier League table, having won just two of their eight matches of the campaign so far.

Manager Sean Dyche is certain to turn to new signings in the upcoming window, having brought in a handful of fresh faces in the summer.

One potential arrival could be Manchester City ace Kalvin Phillips, with the midfielder wanted on a loan deal by Everton in the most recent window, according to The i (10 October).

The England international ended up staying at the Etihad, but according to ESPN (13 October), Phillips is now ready to consider his options, in what is a boost for Dyche and the Toffees.

The former Leeds United man definitely won’t have a shortage of potential suitors, and he may just have the pick of a long list of clubs when the time comes.

Everton will be desperate to be in and around the top of his list, but that is likely to be a tall order given the player’s ability and indeed potential to get better.

There is, however, the potential for the Toffees to stand out in the race for his signature given their preference for a loan deal, which is something that Pep Guardiola may just favour over a permanent exit.

His future remains up in the air, but an exit from Manchester City undoubtedly looks like the best option for the 27-year-old.

First and foremost, he should be looking for regular club football at this stage of his career, but secondly, continuing on the bench under Pep Guardiola is doing a lot of damage to the player’s England chances.

In other Everton news, a BBC Sport journalist has mooted an international “breakthrough” for one Toffees youngster.
