Megan Finnigan makes ‘disappointing’ Everton Women claim ahead of Anfield clash
Everton Women captain Megan Finnigan has admitted her disappointment at their poor start to the season but claims their visit to Anfield on Sunday [15 October] will be a tight encounter.
Everton have lost both of their opening two games this season to Brighton and Leicester, but their results haven’t been fair reflections of the performances, and they will be looking to put things right.
Finnigan also expressed her confidence that, when things finally start to click, this Everton Women side will go on to become a real force, and she backs her side to beat anybody on their day.

Speaking to Everton’s Official Website on 13 October, the skipper shared: “This year, I’m expecting it to be a lot tighter. They’re obviously in good form, winning their first two games, so I think it’ll be a really close encounter and a really good game.
“It’s been a disappointing to the season, for sure,” she said on their recent defeats, “It hurts, to be honest, to have lost those games – games where I feel like we were more than good enough to win.
“We have a great team with a lot of talent, so whilst I’m disappointed, I’m not worried about us.
“[Liverpool have] definitely strengthened in the summer, and they’ve obviously had a really good start to the season, but on our day, I back us to beat anyone as long as we turn up.
“We take confidence and we believe in ourselves because we’re a very good team. It’s just about putting those final few pieces together, and I’m sure that when it clicks for us, it’ll all come together, and we’ll be a real force.”

Aiming to surprise a few
The two sides have faced completely opposite starts to their respective WSL seasons, with Everton’s struggles coming as a surprise, while Liverpool have beaten both Arsenal and Aston Villa in their opening fixtures without conceding a single goal.
Last time out against Leicester, Everton were unlucky to come away without a goal or any points, but they will have to step up their performances if they want to overturn this impressive Liverpool side.
A derby game always throws in a different atmosphere, and the bit of bite in the game could suit Everton in their bid to frustrate the hosts. They certainly have the quality to earn a result at Anfield as they have in the past, but they will need to right their wrongs this season.
If they can be clinical, unlike against Leicester, they will always provide themselves with a good chance of winning the game with the creativity they have in the side.
