Journalist shares what sources say about Kalvin Phillips amid Everton transfer speculation

Sources have downplayed suggestions that Kalvin Phillips has already chosen to leave Manchester City in January amid interest from Everton, according to Ryan Taylor.

Writing on page 57 of the Sunday People’s print edition on 15 October, the journalist said the England international will wait until December before deciding on his future at the Etihad Stadium.

But he added that the likelihood of a winter switch is “growing increasingly stronger” for the 27-year-old and that he is “unlikely to be short of suitors” if he does decide to leave the Premier League champions.

Game time

It’s understandable that Phillips wants to take his time and weigh up whether he really wants to leave what is arguably the best team in world football.

But the midfielder has to think about the impact his lack of game time could have on his international career and his overall match sharpness.

Since signing from Leeds United for £45million in July 2022, the Englishman has made just two Premier League starts and has only played 70 minutes in the league this season.

He would certainly add quality in the middle of the park for the Toffees, but it depends on how much they would have to fork out to sign him, whether that’s in terms of money for a permanent transfer or his wages for a potential loan deal.

He is going to have to make some tough decisions over the next few months, but a move to Goodison Park could be the ideal switch to help him get his career back on track and prove why he deserves to be in the England squad for the European Championships next summer.
