Farhad Moshiri reiterates his support of ‘highly professional’ 777 Partners Everton takeover

Farhad Moshiri has reiterated his support of 777 Partners’ takeover of Everton, describing them as the right people to take the Toffees forward into “the modern era.”

The Miami-based investment firm has agreed to a deal in principle to acquire Moshiri’s 94.1 per cent stake in the Goodison Park-based club, but the potential takeover still requires approval from the Premier League, the FA and the financial conduct authority for it to be confirmed.

777 have faced criticism from some circles after receiving some negative publicity for how they have run the other clubs that they own, leading to many Everton fans being somewhat sceptical of their potential new owners, but current owner Moshiri believes they are the right fit for the Toffees.

As quoted by Sky Sports on Sunday (15 October) he said: “The more time that I have spent with the 777 team, the more my confidence increases that we have found the right people to take the club forward in the modern era.

“They are highly professional and deliver exactly when they say they will, and I look forward to them achieving all their regulatory approvals and proceeding to completion on the timetable we set.”

Confidence

While many have speculated that 777 may struggle to complete their takeover of the Toffees, with a number of clubs in the Premier League said to be unhappy with the potential takeover [Daily Mail, 20 September], there appears to be no doubt in Moshiri’s mind that this deal will be completed.

Everything said by the current Everton owner has to be taken with a slight pinch of salt, after all, it is within his interest for this takeover to be approved as he wants to rid of Everton and would be set to earn a decent fee by selling the club.

Whether or not 777 are truly as professional as he believes remains to be seen and there appears to be plenty of evidence from their other clubs around the world that they may not be the perfect owners, with Brazilian side Vasco de Gama being placed under a transfer ban by FIFA for unpaid transfer fees [Globo, 28 September].

Only time will tell whether or not Moshir’s confidence is genuine, or whether it is all just a front to try and ensure that this takeover is completed without any hiccups. 777 appears to have some skeletons in their closet, but they have had success at some of their other clubs.

If a deal is completed the Blues will just have to hope that they are one of the lucky ones.
