Kieran Maguire mocks Everton as takeover development emerges

Kieran Maguire has mocked Everton after a fresh takeover update claimed that 777 Partners’ loan to the club had risen to £40million.

Taking to X (18 October), Maguire took aim at the seemingly unreliable potential new owners of the Toffees, suggesting that 777 should be “666”.

The Times (18 October) broke the news of the loan increase, throwing further questions on 777’s takeover of Everton.

Maguire wrote: “Sounds more like 666 partners than 777.”

More worry

Each passing week since 777 confirmed their agreement with Farhad Moshiri to become majority owners of the club has brought more and more doubt about their ability.

Per The Times’ report, the loan has doubled from the initial £20million, but the added money is set to cover players’ wages that Everton themselves can’t afford.

The New York Times claimed (18 October) that 777 had not submitted the relevant documents to the Financial Conduct Authority, which is required before the takeover can go through and could face “severe consequences”.

However, insiders at the club and 777 themselves claim that the takeover is going according to plan and that they have submitted such paperwork.

Everton

Where does this leave Everton fans? Nowhere good. The worries on the pitch have been bad enough this season, and with a Merseyside derby just around the corner, the mood could drop further.

777’s financial history has been questioned by many. They co-own the British Basketball League, which remains at risk going into administration, but they made late payments to them last month, further evidence is misguided financial planning.

Maguire’s mockery seems fitting, but the Goodison Park faithful may be too worried to make jokes.
