Journalist shares verdict on Amadou Onana comments amid Everton exit talk
Paul Brown believes it’s not a positive that Everton midfielder Amadou Onana admitted that he doesn’t know what will happen in the future regarding a Goodison Park exit.
Speaking to GiveMeSport on Wednesday (18 October), the former Daily Star journalist said there is “a lot of outside noise” at the moment because of the potential takeover by 777 Partners after the 22-year-old revealed to La Capitale on 11 October that he doesn’t have a “crystal ball” when asked about his Toffees future.
Although he doesn’t believe the admission from the Belgian international is “particularly concerning”, he added that it “isn’t what the fans like to hear”.

“I mean, I suppose it’s not a positive thing when you hear a player saying something like that,” said Brown. “It depends really on the context but I do suspect that there is a lot of outside noise at the moment with Everton because of the takeover that’s currently progressing.
“There is the fact that the club have not enjoyed the best start to the season and there are people already wondering how far they can go or whether they’ll be in trouble again. I’m sure that for a lot of players, getting away with their national team is a nice break from the Premier League full stop really, because the Premier League can be a pressure cooker and quite a grind.
“So I don’t think it’s particularly concerning really, for players to come out with this kind of stuff, but I guess it isn’t what fans like to hear.”
Not ideal
It’s far from ideal for Everton fans to hear one of their star players admitting that he doesn’t know whether his future will be at the club.
After the midfielder had a strong first season in the Premier League, he was linked with a number of clubs, but that interest wasn’t backed up by a concrete offer.
The concern will be that the longer the Toffees continue to haemorrhage money off the field, the more likely they may be to cash in on assets such as Onana at some point.

The whole situation regarding a potential takeover by 777 Partners must be having an impact on the players because they don’t know how secure the club’s future is.
But with that issue continuing to rumble on and more doubts starting to be raised about the company’s suitability to take over at Goodison Park, that isn’t likely to be resolved any time soon.
