Sean Dyche not focused on potential Everton point deduction as situation is out of his control

Sean Dyche has admitted that he is not focused on the possibility of Everton receiving a potential points deduction, as the situation is out of his control.

The Toffees were expected to appear before an independent commission on 25 October over an alleged breach of the Premier League’s Financial Fair Play rules, but a report has suggested that the process has already begun in secret, with the process expected to be concluded next week [Matt Hughes, 18 October].

So far no timeframe has been set to suggest when the results of the investigation will be published, with any sanctions expected to be announced in November, but Dyche has revealed that he is yet to have any reassurance over the possible outcome of the investigation.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo on Thursday (19 October) he said: “No it’s more a case of the ongoing process and we’re part of the process and I’ve stepped into the middle of it. So it’s certainly not something that involves me as manager but it sort of distantly does from the fact that I am manager.

“So I’ll wait and see what the outcome is and when the timelines are. At the minute I don’t know any more than that.”

Discussing the possibility of a points deduction, the Everton boss manager said: “I’m sure there are people talking about lots of different things. I’m just looking at what we can control, I certainly can’t control any of that side of the club.”

Focus on the pitch

There is going to be a circus off the field at Everton in the coming weeks, with fans, pundits and journalists alike all speculating over not only a potential points deduction for the Toffees but also the current state of their takeover by 777 Partners.

What Dyche has said is completely true in that as the football club’s manager, he can do very little to help the situation off of the field, so his entire focus has to be on continuing the Toffees recent good run of form and helping the climb up the table.

With the possibility of a points deduction arriving in the next couple of months, another few big wins in the Premier League would go a long way to helping the Blues move away from the relegation zone, even if they were to lose points once a decision is reached by the panel.

So while the players can do little to help the outcome of the investigation, they can continue to win football matches and Dyche really couldn’t have answered the question in a much better way. It should be a boost to the Everton fanbase to see their manager so focused on the task at hand.
