Tim Sherwood shares Merseyside derby prediction, Everton win ‘if everything goes right’ v Liverpool
Liverpool will win the Merseyside derby but Everton could get the win if “everything goes right”, according to Tim Sherwood.
Speaking on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast (19 October), Sherwood backed the Reds to get the win but disregarded the notion that form is irrelevant for derby clashes.
Everton take the trip to Anfield on Saturday (21 October), but Sherwood claimed the Toffees will need more than luck to get a result.

Sherwood said: “I mean, seriously, at the moment we’ve had one derby this year and that’s been the Tottenham-Arsenal game.
“I think now, this should not be competitive, this football match. They’ve picked up a little bit more confidence at Everton. Everyone says in these games that form goes out the window – that’s a load of nonsense.
“If Liverpool play well, they’ll win the football match. If everything goes right for Everton, they’ve possibly got a chance, but they’d need the referee to be on their side, they’d need a load of luck for them to get a result. “
“That’s the way I see it. It is a mismatch at the moment.”
Tough
Everton have not entered a Merseyside derby as favourites for a long time and wins have been very hard to come by. Carlo Ancelotti brought a rare derby win to Goodison Park in 2021, their first at Anfield since 1999, but Sean Dyche will do well to have the same fortune.
However, Sherwood’s notion that Everton could only get something if “everything” goes their way seems harsh. While they have struggled, Everton have put together some good performances and have been prolific at creating chances.
Per FootyStats, the Toffees’ expected goals per 90 are superior to the Reds with 1.78 and 1.60 respectively, so they could have an outside chance of getting a goal and sitting back to take all three points.

A win against the enemy would do wonders for the morale of the fanbase, who remain worried about the financial state of their club and the reliability of their prospective new owners.
Anfield is always up for a derby but will be keen to get three points to secure their space in the top four. While few would give the Toffees a chance, there is hope of an upset.
In other Everton news, administration may now be the “only option” in a new Goodison takeover twist.
