Everton: The Athletic journo Oliver Kay gives verdict on Goodison Park boardroom ‘chaos’

The Athletic journalist Oliver Kay believes a number of those working behind the scenes at Everton have been “undermined by chaos” at ownership level.

Kay made the comment on his personal Twitter account on Friday (20 October) after listening to BBC Sport’s Nothing Will Be The Same podcast.

The 10-part series told the inside story of last season’s battle with relegation and the uncertainty regarding Farhad Moshiri’s running of the club.

“When a club is mismanaged, can be easy to lose faith in the entire institution,” Kay tweeted. “Away from ownership, must be comforting for fans to hear from so many honest, committed people doing their best for club

“[Sean] Dyche, [Kevin] Thelwell and [Seamus] Coleman epitomise that – and [Frank] Lampard in early episodes. But so do so many of the other staff you hear from.

“That’s the case at a lot of clubs these days. Staff (not just football staff) doing an honest job, undermined by chaos or disinterest at ownership level.”

Optimism

“Chaos” is certainly one way of summing up events at Goodison Park, even now with 777 Partners awaiting the green light to complete a takeover.

Moshiri may be a step closer to the exit, but Everton’s future looks uncertain to say the least given questions regarding the American investment fund’s finances.

One constant will remain, though – Everton fans will continue to show faith in the club itself, even if those high up are disliked.

Everton

Supporters are fully aware that, while Dyche and the players are not always entirely devoid of blame, the running of the club has been lacking for far too long now.

It is no coincidence that avoiding relegation is now the first port of call at the start of every campaign, this one included.

As we await further updates on the 777 takeover situation, we can only remain optimistic that there is a brighter future ahead.

In other Everton news, the Toffees could reportedly land one of their targets for £6million in January.
