Alan Pardew calls for Premier League rule change live on talkSPORT after Everton incident v Liverpool

The Premier League should introduce a sin bin following Ashley Young’s red card for Everton against Liverpool, according to talkSPORT pundit Alan Pardew.

The defender was shown two yellow cards in the first half of the league meeting at Anfield on Saturday (21 October).

The home side won the Merseyside Derby clash 2-0, with winger Mohamed Salah scoring both goals against the 10 men of Everton.

“I think there should be a sin bin of 10 minutes for these two yellow cards, because I don’t really think they warrant the same as a red,” Pardew said live on talkSPORT. “Therefore can you imagine if you had that situation where he goes off, he would have missed the period up until half time and the period after.

“And I think it makes for great TV, it would be great for the game to see the guy sitting on the bench, you have to defend for that period, you have to see it out, and then you get a boost when he comes back on. He’s paid his price.

“I think TV would love it, the sponsors would love it, the stakeholders would love it, and certainly managers would think it makes more sense, so I think everybody wins.”

Harsh?

Everton manager Sean Dyche cannot have too many complaints whatsoever about the two yellow cards that were handed to his defender.

The veteran full-back was given a torrid time by Liverpool ace Luis Diaz in the opening stages of the game, struggling to keep up with the pacey winger.

The former Manchester United and Aston Villa man certainly didn’t need to dive in on his opponent late in the first half having already been booked, with the challenge proving very costly indeed.

But while Dyche doesn’t have a leg to stand on when it comes to challenging the red card, he does have a case when it comes to the lack of red card for Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate.

The centre-back was very lucky to stay on the pitch after committing a cynical foul in the second half while on a yellow card, with Jurgen Klopp quickly avoiding a red for his player by bringing him off shortly after.
