Everton can forget Kalvin Phillips transfer as Bayern Munich sounded out for loan-to-buy deal with Manchester City

Kalvin Phillips’ stock at his own club might be pretty low but plenty of clubs – including Everton – seemingly still rate the England midfielder pretty high.

The former Leeds United ace has just one start to his name for Manchester City this season, that coming in a League Cup defeat to Newcastle United.

With Euro 2024 on the horizon next summer there is an increased possibility that Phillips seeks pastures new in January, and the competition for his signature is set to be pretty fierce.

Indeed, it was reported by iNews on October 10 that Everton were among the clubs interested in striking a deal, especially if the proposed takeover of the club by 777 Partners received the green light.

With the level of competition for Phillips’ signature sure to be high, it always felt like a long shot at best but an update from Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg on Tuesday (24 October) revealed that Bayern Munich may be offered the chance to take him to the Bundesliga, something that surely rules out Everton’s chances.

Plettenberg wrote: “It’s very likely that Kalvin Phillips will leave ManCity in winter as his management is sounding out the market now. #MCFC

“Talks about a loan with an option to buy. No contact or negotiations with FC Bayern at this stage!

“It has never been hot with Phillips/Bayern in summer. But: It’s not excluded that he will be offered in the next weeks. One to watch now. Top mentality. @SkySportDE.”

For Everton, it is difficult to know what sort of business is achievable in the winter window, even less so when no one really knows who will be signing the cheques as 777 still await approval to acquire Farhad Moshiri’s 94% stake in the club.

All the evidence suggests that Phillips will depart the Etihad Stadium in January.

But sadly, it also points to the fact it is massively unlikely the move he will make is to Goodison Park.

In other Everton news, a new £5bn deal offers 777 extra incentive to complete their takeover.
