Jamie Carragher rages over ‘unbelievable’ Everton news as punishment development emerges
Jamie Carragher finds it “unbelievable” that so much coverage is being given to the ongoing Everton FFP case at a time when little is being said about Manchester City and their alleged financial breaches.
A report by The Telegraph stated on Wednesday (25 October) that the Premier League could hit Everton with a 12-point deduction if they are found guilty of breaching profit and sustainability rules.
There is plenty of coverage regarding Everton’s off-the-field issues, but Carragher has questioned why so little is being said about Manchester City, who have had 115 charges brought against them.
“The PL want a 12 point deduction for Everton for one charge,” Carragher posted on Twitter on Wednesday (25 October).
“Man City are going to end up in the National League North if the PL get their way!!
“Unbelievable the amount of stories that come out about Everton’s situation, but Man City’s, which has 114 more charges & has gone on for much longer, has gone very quiet.”
Let’s see
It seems like every pundit around has now had their say on this case, with many quick to argue Everton deserve a severe punishment if they did indeed breach rules.
This is a very complex case, explaining why it is expected to go on for so long, with the Toffees arguing that COVID-19 was largely to blame for their losses.
But as Carragher says, to suggest a 12-point deduction is fair is rather comical when you look at the fate of other sides guilty of similar rule breaches.

In terms of Manchester City, the Premier League announced in February that over 100 charges had been brought against them spanning across nine seasons [ESPN].
While is is understandable that the case will take longer than Everton’s given the vast number of charges, you can guarantee – relatively speaking – that the punishment will not be as firm as the Toffees’.
This is still all hearsay, of course, with no official word coming out of the Premier League with regards to Everton, so let’s just hope that suggestions of a 12-point deduction are wide of the mark.
In other Everton news, a pundit has said he is “confused” about the outcry from Toffees supporters following last weekend’s Merseyside derby defeat.
