Gary Neville makes Everton relegation prediction as 12-point deduction news emerges at Goodison Park

Gary Neville doubts Everton will stay in the Premier League if they’re hit with a 12-point deduction.

The Telegraph reported on Wednesday (25 October) that the Blues face the “extremely severe” punishment if they are found guilty of breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

It is understood that the league has recommended a 12-point deduction that, if enforced now, would sent Everton to the bottom of the table with minus five points.

Former Manchester United right-back Neville was asked on X on Thursday (26 October) whether he thinks Sean Dyche will keep Everton in the Premier League this season.

The Sky Sports pundit believes that without a points deduction, the Toffees will survive.

“Yes but not with a points deduction,” he said.

No chance

If Everton are hit with a 12-point deduction, there’s no chance they’ll stay up.

We’re nine games into the season and that kind of punishment would leave the Blues bottom and 11 points away from safety.

That’s a huge challenge, especially when teams above them will start to pick up points eventually.

Everton’s only saving grace right now is that there are four very bad teams in this league in Sheffield United, Bournemouth, Burnely and Luton.

The Blues are only just better than them based on the results this season so if you throw in a 12-point headstart for those teams, you’d imagine that at least two of them would be able to pull clear of the Merseyside club.

It really doesn’t look good.

However, this is the worst possible outcome for the Toffees and the chances are that the punishment – if any is merited – will be that harsh and of course, it will be appealed.

If it does happen then Farhad Moshiri needs to be frog-marched out of Goodison Park and out of Merseyside for good.
