Jim White apologises to Everton fans over story, ‘sorry Evertonians, it’s worst-case scenario’
Jim White has apologised to the Everton fans after discussing the worst-case scenario for the club live on air.
Speaking on talkSPORT on Thursday (26 October, 11:08am), the presenter asked pundit Simon Jordan if a potential 12-point deduction, which the Premier League has recommended following the Toffees’ alleged breach of spending [The Telegraph], could make the club “more attractive” to 777 Partners.
The businessman suggested in response that the US investment firm may not want to buy a potential Championship club if the Blues were to go down, but he noted that a “far reduced fee” would be on the cards if that were to be the case.

“Let’s say and sorry Evertonians, it’s worst-case scenario,” said White. “Let’s say they’re deducted 12 points, let’s say that they have to get on with life after that, does that make the sale of Everton much more attractive for 777 Partners in that they’ll get the club for a virtual song?”
“Well, I don’t suppose they want to buy a Championship football club because that’s potentially where that will leave Everton,” responded Jordan. “What it will mean for (Farhad) Moshiri or whoever’s money it is, is a far reduced fee for the football club.
“If you believe that you’re paying £500million for a football club that’s playing in the Premier League, you’re not going to be paying it for a club that’s in the Championship.”
Unattractive
The story around a potential 12-point deduction coming the way of Everton is deeply concerning and it’s hard to imagine they would be able to stay up if that were to happen.
Taking over the Toffees in the Championship with the huge debts surrounding the club and the new stadium on the way is surely an unattractive proposition for any potential investors.
There are already question marks around how 777 can finance a deal, so it’s unlikely they would be able to take over the club in the Championship without the Premier League money.

The finances involved in any potential takeover would surely be far less than the £500million that has been mooted, but whether Moshiri would be open to making such a loss is anyone’s guess.
There is no doubt that the Blues fans deserve clarity on all of these matters, though, because they have really been through the wringer over the past couple of years.
