Vincent Kompany reacts to possible Everton points deduction amid reported Burnley fury at financial situation
Vincent Kompany is indifferent to a possible points deduction for Everton as it is not something he has any control over.
BBC Sport journalist Shamoon Hafez reported via Twitter from the Burnley boss’ press conference on 26 October that the Belgian had called it “absolutely nothing to do with anything I can affect”, following a report from The Telegraph a day earlier that the Premier League is asking for 12 points to be taken off the Toffees for the alleged profit and sustainability breach.
Everton have always maintained that they have operated within the regulations on their spending despite building up huge losses over recent seasons, pointing to Covid-19, the new stadium construction, and other allowable expenses as explanation.
The Clarets, along with other previous top flight relegation rivals including Leeds United, Leicester and Southampton have been reported as angry over the situation at Goodison Park and prepared to sue.
That was the second season running that Burnley have reportedly threatened to launch legal action against the Toffees over the financial issue.
Cause for concern
Kompany has responded much like Sean Dyche has in that the managers of the teams involved can do little but concentrate on matters on the pitch.
But the report from The Telegraph has put into words the fears that many Everton supporters have held since the club were referred for a single alleged breach back in March.
And while it is said to not be something to deter 777 Partners from continuing their push to buy from Farhad Moshiri, the potential for such a punishment is clearly not good news when relegation is a valid concern even without any further problems.

Of course the Premier League are essentially the plaintiff in this case and what they want is not necessarily what they will get, if Everton are even found against, because the decision is not theirs to make.
And the potential for appeals from whichever side in effect loses means the actual implementation of any punishments could be pushed down the road some way.
What legal complications involving the other clubs that Everton have fought relegation battles against to get involved are unclear, but what is obvious is that it’s a high-stakes situation for a club that is no stranger to peril in recent years.
In other Everton news, Ben Jacobs has shared an update on the takeover that puts it in more doubt than it was in recent weeks.
